Technologies:

Rapidfire Plus
Rapidfire Plus has been used by mountain bikers since 1985. Rapidfire Plus is still the first choice of various rider groups, from cross-country racers to freeriders and downhillers. Rapidfire Plus is suitable for fast shifting. Riders can downshift up to three gears in one shift stroke. All new Rapidfire Plus shifters, from XTR to Deore LX, are equipped with 2-Way Release. This means that shift cable is released by pulling with the index finger or pushing with the thumb.

Instant Release
The Instant Release shifting process replaces the two-step click and release process. With instant release, the cable is released immediately when the lever is operated, thus achieving the fastest possible gear change. Whether shifting up with a top-normal rear derailleur or shifting down with a low-normal rear derailleur, a faster shift is always a better shift.

Multi Release
With previous shifting systems, changing gears in one direction was always faster than changing gears in the other direction. Choosing top-normal or low-normal always meant sacrificing shifting speed in one direction for the sake of the other. Now, with Multi Release, two gears can be changed with one lever action. The result: the fastest possible gear change in both directions, regardless of the type of rear derailleur used.

2-Way Release
The release lever of a Rapidfire Plus shifter is pulled towards the grip like the trigger of a pistol. The release lever of the new Rapidfire Plus shifters from Alivio to XTR can be operated in the same way. However, it can also be used to shift by thumb pressure.

Optislick
Optislick cables feature a minimal, uniform electroplated coating that allows for more efficient cable routing and features excellent corrosion resistance.
