How it all began...

In 1991 Rex and Marilyn Trimnell started X-Lite UK by designing and manufacturing the world's first double crown bike fork and the world's lightest bar ends. But that wasn't enough for Rex. As a man obsessed with detail, he was constantly frustrated by how long it took to wash his bike. Rex set about understanding surfactant technologies and developed a perfectly pink cleaner to maintain his kit.

This was in 1994, at a time when most motorcyclists were cleaning their bikes with salty washing-up liquid. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to understand that water plus salt leads to a lot of corrosion. Therefore, it was important that Rex's cleaner was environmentally friendly, highly effective and did not cause damage to sensitive surfaces or components. To cut a long story short: Rex's formula was the best thing since sliced bread when it came to cleaning a bike, and it didn't take long for word to spread and Muc-Off bike cleaner was born.

The Muc-Off event team is present at events all over the world.

2014 Muc-Off becomes the official supplier of Team Sky. This was just the beginning of a very exciting partnership and as the partnership grows rapidly, Muc-Off produces its first product together with Team Sky. The revolutionary Hydrodynamic chain lube was born.

2015 Muc-Off becomes the official cleaning partner of Atherton Racing, one of the biggest teams in the downhill series.
After working with Team Wiggins, Muc-Off began speed testing over 40 Shimano Dura-Ace chains on our specialised Muc-Off laboratory equipment. This enabled us to select only the fastest and most efficient chains to thoroughly clean and treat with our ground-breaking new formula. This state of the art formula and treatment process pushes the boundaries of lubrication chain innovation and has been specifically designed to reduce friction to an absolute minimum. A sophisticated new military grade additive has been used alongside some state of the art extreme pressure additives to provide an incredibly fast lubricating treatment to the chain. Muc-Off wins the first Tour de France with Team Sky using the Hydrodynamic Chain Lube.

In 2018, Muc-Off innovates once again with the world's first specific eBike product range. And tyre sealant becomes its most successful market launch.

Muc-Off products become increasingly successful. Tubeless Sealant wins the award for best sealant in Bicycling Magazine. Muc-Off also launches the world's first bike-specific high-pressure cleaner, expands its tubeless range and removes PTFE from all formulations.

Innovation is our DNA...

...and the relentless pursuit of progress - this is how the company develops chain lubricants to win Olympic titles and the Tour de France.
All ideas are developed in the in-house, state-of-the-art research and development centre by Rex's son Alex, the MD (Mad Developer). Once he has come up with something new, it is tested by in-house tinkerers and riders to ensure that every Muc-Off product has the imagination cranked up to eleven. The products are made by riders for riders.

Project Green is a key focus at Muc Off, with every process, every product, every package scrutinised.
