Change chain
Depending on driving style and care, the chain should be changed every 1500-2500km. Of course, you can also take your time, but then you run the risk of also having to change the drive components (chainring and cassette). This could be expensive. To prevent this, it is advisable to recognize in time when the chain needs to be changed.
The best way to find out is to use a chain gauge. To do this, place the chain gauge on the chain (choose the right side depending on the material, aluminum or steel drive) and look at the distance between the chain and the chain gauge. If there is a gap, the chain is not locked. If there is no distance between the chain and the chain gauge and the chain gauge falls on the chain, it means that the chain must be changed immediately.
How do I change the chain?
You need:
- A new chain that matches the cassette, i.e. the number of sprockets
- Chain lock opening pliers
- Chain riveter
- Chain lock
Proceed with the change as follows:
- Shift the front and rear wheels to the smallest sprocket. Open the existing chain with chain opening pliers.
- Place the old and new chain side by side to adjust the length. If necessary, shorten the new chain to the correct length by using a chain riveter. Make sure you have two complete chain links at the end.
- Then thread the chain back in, making sure it runs correctly. Finally, close the chain again with a chain lock.
