About LEATT
Headquarters is located in Cape Town, in the Western Cape province of South Africa. The founder of Leatt Corporation, Dr. Christopher Leatt, is South African and developed the Leatt-Brace® in Cape Town, South Africa.
Dr. Leatt began researching and developing a cervical spine protection device after witnessing the death of another motocross racer who died the weekend his son Matthew began riding. He filed his first patents in 2003. The brace was then tested in Munich by BMW engineers at their factory, and the first production units were sold in late 2006.
The Leatt Brace® is now a world-renowned, award-winning protection system worn by top athletes, and our products now include helmets, protective vests, knee pads, elbow pads, hydration systems and apparel. Leatt Corporation distributes these products worldwide. As of 2020, Leatt is a head-to-head brand for motorcycle and MTB.
Research and development takes place in Cape Town, South Africa, at the Leatt Lab. Leatt also has warehouses and a sales office in Nevada for the North American market, as well as a global network of distributors for Europe, Asia, Africa, South America and Oceania.
