Made in Tyrol
Kathrein has been manufacturing quality toboggans and sledges for families, ambitious recreational tobogganists and racing athletes for more than 130 years.
In 1886, Alois Kathrein founded his wainwright's workshop, which produced toboggans and hay sledges as well as wagon wheels and tool handles. Back then, sledges were primarily used as a means of transport to get from the mountain to the valley. A lot has happened since then. Over the years, tobogganing has become increasingly popular as a leisure sport and Kathrein has specialised completely in the manufacture of toboggans over the last 30 years.
In Prutz (Tyrolean Oberland), the toboggans are precisely handcrafted by ten toboggan specialists. The combination of traditional craftsmanship and state-of-the-art production technology as well as many years of experience in sledge construction make it possible to offer high-quality sledges with a good price-performance ratio.
In 2008, the steerable models were awarded the Quality Toboggan Austria seal of approval by the Austrian Toboggan Association.
In addition to your satisfaction, Kathrein is also very concerned about the preservation of nature - which is why the sledges are made of solid Austrian ash wood from sustainable forestry and are finished exclusively with water-based paints.
Regardless of whether you choose a family, touring, hire or racing toboggan: Kathrein toboggans stand for safe and stable toboggans with excellent running and steering characteristics. And of course: for great fun when tobogganing.
How do I store my toboggan?
Avoid exposing your toboggan to excessive heat (e.g. boiler rooms, radiators) or direct sunlight. It's best to store it in a dry room with as little exposure as possible.
How do I care for my toboggan?
- Always rub the steel rail dry after tobogganing and wax it thoroughly (with commercially available liquid wax or ski wax). This prevents rust and improves the gliding properties of your toboggan.
- The screws on the steel rails should be tightened a little every now and then.
- Scratched or heavily rusted rails can be re-sanded - to do this, always sand with 60-100 grit in the direction of travel until a nice (coarse) structure is created (belt sander). Then polish the rails a little more (but not too much - only so that they become smooth, but the coarse structure remains deeper in the steel). The following rule of thumb applies: the softer the snow, the more structure can be in the steel. After sanding, you should clean the steel rails and wax them well.
