Is my bicycle suitable for road use?
Bicycle regulation from May 1, 2001
Only properly equipped bicycles are allowed to participate in road traffic. Since May 2001 (amended October 2013), the Bicycle Ordinance has defined the minimum criteria. In case of violation, the authorities can impose penalties. Lights and rear lights are no longer required when placing the bicycle on the market, but are mandatory when using the bicycle in poor visibility and at night.
1. Reflectors (except for racing bikes during the day and in good visibility)
- To the front: white
- To the rear: red
- On the pedals: yellow
- On the wheels: spoke reflector or reflective ring in the mantle white or yellow
2. Lights (except during the day and in good visibility)
- To the front: white or light yellow, must not flash
- To the rear: red, may flash
3. Bell or horn (except for racing bikes in daylight and good visibility)
4. Two independent brakes in good working order
