The story behind Endura
Ambitious cyclist Jim McFarlane founded Endura Ltd in 1992 when he returned to Edinburgh, Scotland after 14 months in Australia. During his time in Australia, Jim joined a cycling group that competed in triathlon team events. After his equipment was stolen, he was forced to look for new suitable equipment, which proved to be a difficult endeavour.
After returning home, he started his own endeavour to produce cycling clothing. His aim was to produce cycling clothing that was functional and robust, but without compromising on material and composition. And this is precisely the basic principle on which Endura is still based today.
The very first collection, the MT500 range, was a huge success and established the brand almost overnight as the first choice for mountain bikers' cycling clothing in the UK.
Since then, Endura has become the largest cycling clothing brand in the UK with a range from MTB to road bike and commuter clothing.
Endura's manufacturing facility utilises the latest technologies in CAD design, digital sublimation printing, laser cutting, automated ceramic blade cutting and seamless ultrasonic welding/cutting. We also continue to invest in the latest domestic production technologies, whereas most other companies source all their products from overseas suppliers.
The company has won numerous product awards in various magazines and various awards within the industry, including the Eurobike Design Award for clothing in 2007 and 2009.
Endura technologies
D3O®
D3O inserts provide a highly functional, breathable layer of protection for mountain biking. D3O uses non-Newtonian materials that stiffen on impact to dissipate impact energy and reduce transmitted forces before returning to their flexible state. This technology fits perfectly with Endura's protector collection.
SST
This patented technology was developed in collaboration with Simon Smart and validated by leading road cyclists at UCI World Championships. SST™ is the result of years of research and analysis of airflow in the wind tunnel and Endura's development of new production methods, whereby theoretical ideas could be put into practice. Strategically placed 3D applications direct airflow around the body and reduce drag, which is incredibly important in time trials
Padding work
Developed in collaboration with the bike fitting experts at gebioMized, the 700 series pad of our Pro SL Bibshort is available in three widths. It is optimised for the pelvis and reduces pressure points to ensure greater comfort.
Dropseat function
The DropSeat feature is included in many of Endura's women's bib shorts and is designed to make bathroom breaks quick and easy. Thanks to this function, women no longer have to take off their jersey and jacket during toilet breaks. The bib construction combines wide, elasticated, criss-cross straps with a supportive, highly moisture-wicking mesh insert on the front to keep the shorts in place while riding.
CLICKFAST
Our Clickfast system allows a padded inner short to be attached quickly and securely with a series of press studs. Endura baggy shorts with the "Clickfast compatible" logo are Clickfast™ compatible and can be worn with any Endura Clickfast short or liner. Some Endura baggy shorts already include a Clickfast liner. The labels on these shorts are labelled "Contains inner shorts".
