What is a cross bike and what are its characteristics?
A cyclocrosser or in German Querfeldeinrad, looks like a road bike with wide tires and is the predecessor of the mountain bike. Such a wheel is perfect for winter training but also in the summer it can be used in many ways. Due to the good all-round and rolling characteristics it is optimal for the daily way to work. The special feature of a cross bike is the compatibility of off-road capability and speed. By using mountain bike technology, such as disc brakes and robust wheels, these bikes are made for fast off-road rides.
Which group should I choose?
On the drive, mostly well-known components from the road bike segment are used.
In addition, the 1-fold circuit is becoming increasingly popular in the cyclocross sector. Even if many still hold on to derailleurs you see more and more drivers who are on the road with groups like the SRAM Apex 1. This group has only one chainring mounted on the crank but a 11-speed cassette on the rear wheel. The 1-speed drive scores with easy handling, little cable tangle on the handlebars and especially with easy maintenance. The manufacturer Shimano still installs 2 chainrings on the crank, but is the market leader in terms of manufacturing quality and durability.

Disc brake or rim brake?
The disc brake has also found its way into the cross bike segment in recent years. Accordingly, almost all new cross bikes also have wheels for disc brake mounting and the thru axle for more stiffness in the connection between the wheel and frame is big on the rise.
What does a cross bike cost?
A reasonable cross bike is already available from about 1900€. Depending on the equipment, there is hardly a limit upwards. The high-end devices are characterized by an extremely low weight and top equipment. So there is nothing more in the way of cross fun.
