Who are the "crankbrothers"?
The brand name crankbrothers has become an integral part of the mountain bike sport. It all began in a garage in Laguna Beach... The company's leading figures are engineer Carl Winefordner and designer Frank Hermansen. Although Carl and Frank are not biological brothers - as their different surnames make clear - the crankbrothers are brothers in spirit, united by the idea of developing clever and independent MTB products with a genuine passion for the sport of MTB. This philosophy not only sets crankbrothers components and accessories apart from competitor products, but also makes them so outstanding in their functions.
crankbrothers pedals inspire
Since the company was founded in 1997, the Californian MTB component manufacturer crankbrothers has followed a simple design philosophy based on rethinking and redesigning every product from the ground up. The result is surprisingly different and extremely functional designs that increase riding pleasure.
The most revolutionary product from crankbrothers is the so-called Eggbeater. These are clipless pedals with an open bracket design that look more like a scrambler than a conventional pedal. This open design offers twice as many entry points as conventional clipless pedals, making it easier to click in and out - a great advantage, especially in difficult terrain. What's more, the pedal's open design makes it ideal for protecting against dirt. This lightweight "snow brush" is perfect for racers and lightweight enthusiasts. The small contact surface is hardly noticeable on shoes with stiff soles.
Mallet 3, the latest version of the classic clipless pedal for downhill and freeride, is functionally adapted to the requirements of the sport in every detail: a secure stance is particularly important when jumping and travelling at high speeds. This is ensured by the Mallet 3's large contact surface and six additional pins on each side of the pedal, while high-quality bearings - needle bearings on the inside and industrial bearings from Enduro Bearing on the outside - ensure smooth running and long-lasting durability, even under the considerable stresses of downhill use. The open design of the pedal prevents mud and dirt from getting stuck. This means that getting in and out of the pedals is never a problem. The axle around which the two-part lightweight but robust aluminium pedal body rotates is made of corrosion-resistant and extremely durable chrome-molybdenum steel, which can withstand even the hardest landings.
Crankbrothers Candy Pedal or the Mallet Pedal for downhillers and freeriders offer more contact surface and lateral support thanks to additional pins.
Those who prefer flat pedals will also find what they are looking for at Crankbrothers: The Stamp pedal offers an optimum connection between shoe and pedal and comes with an interesting new feature. During development, Crankbrothers analysed the soles of leading shoe manufacturers and their contact surface with the pedal. The result is a flat pedal that fits the rider perfectly and is therefore available in two different sizes - small and large.
Stylish crankbrothers wheels
The wheels of the Cobalt, Iodine and Synthesis series attract a lot of attention and increase the style factor of every bike many times over. With the Highline, Crankbrothers brought a dropper post onto the market that impresses with its uncomplicated installation and ergonomics - the rider has complete freedom in the alignment of the handlebar remote.
In the accessories area , there is an extended product range of mini tools. A particular highlight is the Klic floor pump, which impresses with its revolutionary design and simple but clever functions. The floor pump was honoured with the Design & Innovation Award 2018 for good reason.
crankbrothers MTB shoes
Crankbrothers is now also developing its own mountain bike shoes that harmonise perfectly with the Crank Brothers MTB pedals. To this end, the developers at the Californian think tank have perfectly matched the composition of the soles and the cleat area to the corresponding pedals and the respective area of use. Match System is the magic word for easier mounting and dismounting and more riding fun on the trail.
The Crankbrothers Mallet shoe is designed for rough downhill use. The lighter construction version of the Mallet E MTB shoe is aimed more at enduro and trail riders. And with the super grippy Crankbrothers Stamp shoe, flat pedal enthusiasts will get their money's worth. Each shoe model is available with a Boa fastener, Speed Lace or simple lacing to optimally meet your comfort and control requirements.
