Tradition and progress
Continental has been manufacturing tyres for more than 150 years: large and small, thick and thin, fast and strong. The tyres have been found on racing cars and Tour de France bikes, have broken speed and range records, are regularly tested as best in class and were often the first of their kind. Continental invented the first patterned tyre tread and the first tubeless tyre.
An enormous amount of knowledge and expertise has been acquired since the company was founded in Hanover in 1871. Decades of extensive research and testing have proven beyond doubt, for example, that tyres are not only decisive for the overall performance of a vehicle, but also have a significant influence on braking performance. As a progress-oriented company, the aim is to optimise the product range. Continental's product development teams are working to maximise all safety-related properties of the tyres while minimising rolling resistance. These aspects make a fundamental contribution to driving safety and sustainability.
