BMC - The bike manufacturer from Switzerland

Founded in 1986, the company is a special bike manufacturer. After all, BMC Switzerland AG with its approximately 120 employees is nowhere near the size of well-known manufacturers from the Far East. Nevertheless, the company based in Grenchen in the canton of Solothurn already produced more than 70,000 bikes in 2017, primarily in the field of road and MTB racing - and the trend is rising. The company is no longer limited to its location in idyllic Switzerland. In the meantime, the racing bikes developed, produced and marketed by BMC are also sold outside the DACH region in North America, Western Europe, South Africa, the United Arab Emirates and even in East Asia.

The BMC Story - Success Story Made in Switzerland

The roots of the BMC brand go back to 1986. At that time, the founder held the distribution license for the Raleigh-Cycle-Company brand in Switzerland. Shortly thereafter, Bob Bingelow established the Binglow Mounting Company, which was renamed the Bicycle Manufacturing Company in 2001. However, the BMC brand as such had already existed since 1994. Throughout its history, the company has repeatedly made a name for itself through technology leadership. Already in 2000, BMC was known for its mountain bikes with Virtual Pivot System damping solution. With the turn of the millennium and the takeover by Swiss entrepreneur Andy Rhis, BMC completely refocused its product strategy on research, development and design of racing bikes. This also coincided with the first sponsorship activities in professional bicycle racing. The biggest revolution in terms of production technology took place in 2010 with the construction of the BMC Impec research and production line. There, to this day, the frames of BMC bikes are manufactured to the highest quality standards. For many years (2007 to 2018), the company was also active as the main sponsor of the U.S. team BMC Racing, which has made the bikes of the Swiss also among hobby cyclists a high popularity.
