MTB Full Suspension

Performance is a question of character

Faster, higher, further - is the motto of a full-suspension mountain bikes. Until the turn of the millennium, a Fully was not much more than a bike with a particularly solid frame, resilient tires and full-suspension. Today's Fullys are real high-tech products. Long gone are the days of the power-swallowing chainstays, which pulled the bike on every climb back into the valley. Thanks to the state-of-the-art suspension technology, lightweight materials and adjustable suspension travel, the MTB Fully delivers maximum performance on any terrain.

The all-rounders for any terrain

Are forests your territory? Your opponents are rootstocks, deep hollows and rocky terrain? All-mountain full-suspension bikes are perfect for such situations. Thanks to the moderate suspension travel of 130 to 150 mm, you can comfortably master any obstacle without wasting too much energy on the mountain. The all-rounder among MTB fullys also scores points with its aggressive disc brakes, which make even daring descents an absolutely safe affair. And if you want to be equipped for even the most demanding trails and rapid downhill sections, you can opt for an enduro bike with a particularly stable frame set.

Which way please? With a freeride or downhill bike, you no longer have to ask yourself this question. Thanks to a suspension travel of over 180 mm, a particularly stable frame geometry and, last but not least, XL disc brakes, you can make your way anywhere. No matter whether it's scree deserts, breakneck slopes or spectacular drops and jumps in the bike park. This special type of mountain bike can cope with anything, but due to its weight and massive suspension, it has significant deficits in terms of climbing ability.

It can be a real pleasure to enjoy descents on a bike and race over rough ground as if it were a freshly tarmacked road. A mountain bike makes it easy to experience this feeling. However, you have to make the right choice. After all, not all MTBs are the same. While the mountain goats among you prefer climbing with a bike that is as light as possible, trail lovers want something different. Because downhill, it's the fullys that guarantee maximum riding fun. But what actually characterizes a full suspension MTB and why should you consider buying one?

Mountain bike as a fully with full suspension

The origins of mountain biking clearly lie in the classic hardtail models. These bikes with a front suspension fork already allow you to ride on difficult terrain with relative cushioning. However, as the development of innovations in bicycles never stops, the fully - full suspension - developed from the hardtail as an alternative at the end of the 1980s. The first prototypes of a full-suspension bike were developed by the American Keith Bontrager, among others. Later, however, the hardtail mountain bike was not replaced by the new fullys. Instead, a market developed for both MTB concepts, which has continued in this form to this day.

The pioneers of mountain bikes, who also installed a shock absorber in the rear triangle, laid the foundation for the development of completely new types of cycling. In the meantime, the prototypes have developed into a market that offers everything a mountain biker's heart could possibly desire. You will therefore find a wide range of full-suspension mountain bikes in our range. Whether you're looking for a carbon frame or a more affordable aluminum version, you're sure to find what you're looking for here. From inexpensive models for beginners to top-class professional full-suspension bikes, we have various models for different requirements. If you have decided to buy a full-suspension MTB, you are sure to find your new dream bike with us.

What are the advantages of a full suspension mountain bike?

In contrast to the classic hardtail, a full-suspension mountain bike also has full suspension. The rigid rear part of the hardtail has been replaced by a rear triangle with shock absorber. This is a great advantage when roots, stones or other obstacles line the path. This is because the damping in the suspension fork absorbs the shocks from the front wheel and the rear suspension does the same with the impact on the rear wheel. When both suspension elements are optimally adjusted, riding on uneven terrain almost feels like riding on a paved road. Downhill and cross-country riders rely on full-suspension MTBs, especially for fast descents on trails. Riding fun is guaranteed with these mountain bikes. This is mainly because there is always a high level of traction. The damping absorbs all impacts and you always have the option of riding exactly where you want to go. A full suspension mountain bike also promises you maximum riding fun on jumps. Depending on what type of mountain bike you are, you should look carefully at which type of fully you prefer. After all, there are bikes whose suspension is fully designed to get maximum speed downhill. On the other hand, there is also the option of buying a fully that you can use as an all-round model both uphill and downhill.

Should I buy a hardtail or a fully?

When you ask yourself this question, there are a few points that are enough to make a decision. First of all, you should think about whether your goal is simply to have fun on relatively paved forest paths or whether you want to tackle fast descents and trails. In the first case, a hardtail is more suitable; in the second, you should opt for a full-suspension bike. You should also consider whether it is important to you to climb with as little weight as possible or whether a few extra grams won't affect your riding enjoyment. Full-suspension mountain bikes are always slightly heavier than hardtails due to the additional damping system. Last but not least, your wallet also plays an important role. Due to the increased number of technically complicated components, buying a full suspension bike involves a higher financial investment than a hardtail. Furthermore, more technical details also mean a higher risk of defects. If you take these aspects into account, it will be much easier to decide between buying a full or semi-suspension MTB.

What should I look out for when buying a full-suspension bike?

As with any other bike, it is very important that the bike fits your body when buying a full-suspension MTB. Otherwise, an incorrect set-up will inevitably lead to physical discomfort, which you certainly don't want. It is therefore essential to buy an MTB with a frame size that fits your body. With the help of a frame size calculator, you can find out your individual fit in a flash. Our bike advice will then also help you to find the best possible bike for your needs. You should therefore also think about which wheel size you prefer. It should be noted that comfortable 29-inch wheels have become much more popular in recent years. However, you may still prefer the smaller versions. As with the choice of frame material, there are no limits here.
