Wheels and hubs - Nothing rolls without them

It is the wheel that makes the bicycle what it is. The front and rear wheels are not only complex, but also have different structures. They consist of spokes, hubs and flanks, which have their own characteristics for each application. Whether hard-wearing MTB rim, streamlined high-profile impeller or wheel accessories such as thru axles or adapters for roller trainers - you will find it with us.

What makes good wheels?

Whether front wheel or rear wheel - good wheel designs must be stable. This is achieved either by using a lot of material or by cleverly designing the rim and the lacing. The rule is: the more spokes, the more stable a wheel. Thus, it can easily withstand a higher system weight of rider and bike. Lightweight and at the same time strongly loadable wheel designs are often found in the upper price segment. In addition, a good front wheel and rear wheel depends on the following aspects:

  • Compatibility with the correct brake mount, i.e. disc brake or rim brake.
  • High torsional stiffness for maximum power transmission.
  • As low as possible dead weight, so always a little energy is lost when pedaling.
  • Possibility to drive without tube (tubeless) particularly puncture-proof.

Well stored - high quality hubs for your bike

While the rims usually get a lot of attention before the purchase, this looks different with the hubs. Here, everything revolves around them in the truest sense of the word. These bearings are responsible for the smooth running of the bike. As smooth as possible industrial ball bearings provide a particularly good harmony on the track. Nevertheless, regular maintenance is mandatory to maintain performance and minimize wear.

System wheel or classic spoked wheel?

So-called system wheels are machine-produced wheel sets. Their combination of rim, hub and spokes is optimized so that they can be used by the widest possible range of bikers. This leads to a good compromise between weight, price and performance. Classically spoked wheels are more individual, because here components are freely selected and must be installed together themselves.

Thus, the wheels can be tailored exactly to your needs. Due to the construction of crossed spokes as well as binding and soldering, even wheels for heavy riders are no problem. There is also no lack of high-quality standard spare parts in case of damage. The disadvantage: Compared to the system wheel, a classically spoked wheel is somewhat more expensive.
