Front derailleur
The front derailleur is a small component on the seat tube. Even if little attention is paid to him, he fulfills an important function: He allows you a smooth change between the large, medium and small chainring. That is, the front derailleur has a great influence on the drive and gear ratio of your bike. Depending on the speed, slope and riding style, you as a cyclist need a larger or smaller gear ratio to progress comfortably and efficiently.
Bike converters are found exclusively on bikes with 2-speed or 3-speed derailleurs. Bikes with 1-speed derailleur have only a single chainring and therefore do not require a system for changing the front gear ratio.

Correct adjustment of the front derailleur
An incorrectly adjusted front derailleur on a bicycle can negatively affect the riding experience in many ways, so proper adjustment of the front derailleur is very important.
What happens when the front derailleur is incorrectly adjusted?
- the chain jumps off the chainring without the rider's intervention
- the chain jumps over the smallest or largest rear sprocket
- the effort required for shifting increases
- annoying grinding noises spoil the riding pleasure
- the wear increases due to missing hold of the chain
Therefore, a tip: When buying a new derailleur, pay attention not only to compatibility with your shifting system, but also to the permitted chain size of your bike. Because most derailleurs on the wheel are not suitable for all chain sizes.
