Brake systems for road bike, mountain bike and Co.
No matter whether sprinting on the straight, on crisp climbs or on rapid descents. Who is sporty with road bike and mountain bike, needs not only a buttery smooth drive, but also toxic brakes that bring the bike safely to a halt in any situation. Starting from brake pads to brake levers to complete systems, you will find in our store everything you need to upgrade or replace worn parts of your bike.
Different bikes, different braking systems
There are currently two dominant braking systems on the bicycle market. On the one hand, there is the classic rim brake. This brakes the bike via brake shoes that are pressed against the brake flank of the wheels via a Bowden cable. This system is primarily used on road bikes, where the overall system saves weight compared to disc brake systems. Disc brakes, on the other hand, are now on the rise in all areas. While they are already standard on mountain bikes, more and more road bike manufacturers are also relying on the combination of brake pads and discs. Disc brake systems can be operated either hydraulically or mechanically. While the hydraulic variant is of higher quality and achieves better braking performance, mechanical systems are easier to maintain.
This is how disc brakes work
The disc brake works quite simply and is known from various motor vehicles. As soon as you operate the brake lever on your bike, a brake piston presses the brake pads onto the brake disc mounted on the wheel. Similar to the rim brake, the energy of the forward movement is thus converted into heat by friction and the bike slows down. Due to the special design of the brake discs via holes and bulges, the heat generated is dissipated over as large a surface as possible. The following applies: The larger the diameter of the brake disc, the greater the braking power.
