What kind of bike racks are available?
Mountain bikes, road bikes and gravel bikes usually do not have a mounted bike stand for weight reasons. Bike stands belong - along with racks and mudguards - to the bicycle accessories that allow you to use and protect your bike uncomplicated and versatile. The selection of brands and colors is huge. But essentially, bike stands can be divided into three basic types:
- Side stand
Bike stands like the side stand can be found on almost every bike. The reason, they are unobtrusive and uncomplicated to use. Bicycle side stands are thus an excellent solution for bikes with little or no luggage. You can mount a side stand simply with a screw on the central structure behind the bottom bracket and already has your bike over three points on the ground (bike stand and wheels), the necessary stability to be parked autonomously.
- Rear stand
As the name suggests, the bike stand is attached to the rear triangle, explicitly to the rear area of the chainstay or the dropout. Thus, this type of stand is a perfect bike stand for MTB's, as it offers stable stand on different surfaces and slopes and as a bike stand on the rear wheel copes much better with payload.
- Bipod stand
Bicycle bipod stands are mounted centrally on the bottom bracket and are the optimal solution for bikes with high weight (eg e-bikes) and heavy load (child and child seat). Bipod stands for bicycles are the most stable type of stand on level ground.
All bike stands ensure that your bike can stand safely practically anywhere and you don't have to lean it anywhere.
What do I have to pay attention to when choosing a bike stand?
- the maximum load of the bike rack, a road bike usually comes to a maximum of 10kg, an e-bike quickly to 25kg
- Compatibility of the mount with the dimensions of your bike
- Tire width: bike mounts for the front or rear wheel must offer enough space for your tire width
Bike storage on the wall (ceiling)
The classic bike mount is the bike wall mount. It is firmly screwed to the wall, whereby you should - depending on the load - consider the nature of the wall.
Depending on the wall mount, you can place your road bike or MTB horizontally (usually on the top tube) or vertically (usually on the front or rear wheel) on the wall. A bike mount using 2 points is the most stable and also prevents the handlebars from hitting the wall. Some wall mounts for bicycles are foldable or swiveling, which is beneficial for space-saving bicycle storage.
Bicycle storage on the ground
With these practical and inexpensive bike racks, your bike is fixed to the ground via the frame or rear wheel. Whether at home or outdoors, free-standing bike racks are a flexible and uncomplicated storage option for your bike and are also excellent for minor repairs. Many holder systems are collapsible and therefore very portable.
